Eighty project teams received awards in 43 categories from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for outstanding construction project. The awards were given out at the association’s national convention held earlier this year.
ABC’s awards program recognizes the quality and innovation of merit shop construction and honors all the members of the construction team, including the contractor, the owner and the design team responsible for the project. The winning projects were selected from entries submitted from across the country and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unusual challenges, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and budget.
Thirty-seven contractors received "merit" awards, and 43 were given ABC’s highest honor, the first place "Eagle" award. Project winners included new office buildings, massive plant additions, historical renovations of significant properties, new hospitals and center for the elderly and ill – to name a few.
"Once again, merit shop contractors have proven their ability to create some of the nation’s most outstanding projects. In many cases, contractors faced difficult and challenging work situations, but they overcame them to deliver the project on schedule and under budget," said 2002 ABC National Chairman Ken Adams.
