U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) employees from the Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Ala. were deployed to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands the weekend of Sept. 16 to evaluate the conditions of public buildings following Hurricane Irma, USACE reported.

The team included:

  • Jason Adams, subject matter expert
  • Jason Cade, action officer
  • Wesley Business, mission manager
  • Shah Alam, mission manager

In addition, another employee from the Huntsville Center, Steven Pautz, went to Austin, Texas, to help with FEMA's recovery strategy after Hurricane Harvey.

"Hurricane recovery is a high priority for USACE," said Col. John Hurley, Huntsville Center commander. "Huntsville Center's Temporary Housing [Planning and Response Team] and other volunteers are standing by, and are ready to go where needed."

Part of USACE's job is to manage temporary structure construction, including fire stations, schools and medical facilities for the affected area to use until more permanent facilities can be built or rebuilt.
