PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) The Army Corps of Engineers plans to spend $192.5 million in economic stimulus money for repairs and construction in Oregon and Washington state.
The Oregonian reports the 266 projects include restoration of three key tribal fishing grounds, repairing dams in the Columbia River system and improving lakes and coastal harbors.
About $28 million will go to build or improve tribal fishing sites along the Columbia River, with the bulk going to build fishing grounds at Dallesport and Wyeth, near Hood River.
Another $330,000 will help with reconstruction of the Celilo Indian Village, which thrived before The Dalles Dam flooded Celilo Falls in 1957.
The projects, announced April 28, are paid for by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which set aside $4.6 billion in February for Corps projects.
