On June 19 to 27, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, excavators and other equipment will take over the grounds at the Great Lakes Science Center in downtown Cleveland, OH.

This special exhibition, presented by the Ohio Contractors Association with assistance from the Ohio Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Program, features construction equipment for children of all ages to learn about and operate.

In addition, an indoor display area has been developed where kids can play with construction toys in a sand box and on specially constructed tables. Literature also will be displayed and distributed about careers in construction.

Last year’s show, which attracted more than 6,500 participants, featured 11 different machines, four of which were available to give visitors a hands-on opportunity to operate. As with last year’s event, the Operating Engineers will staff the event each day to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for anyone who wants to get on the machines.

According to Ohio Contractors Association Cleveland Chapter members Ann Nerone, Ballast Fence, and Paul Liesem, of Ohio CAT, the goal of the event is to promote careers in the construction and construction equipment industries, while enhancing the industry’s image to the public.

A large number of Ohio Contractors Association members and Ohio Operating Engineers apprentices contribute to produce Big Machines at the Great Lakes Science Center.

The Great Lakes Science Center is located next to the Cleveland Browns Stadium and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
