Binder Eliminates Buying Concerns

Construction Equipment Guide

What’s the biggest concern when it comes to buying a used piece of equipment? It’s probably fear of the unknown. Buyers can see what a machine looks like on the outside, but what’s going on inside? Is the machine really going to be able to do what the buyer needs it to do for as long as it’s needed to do it for?

Now Binder Machinery Company, through Komatsu America International, has started a new program designed to eliminate many of the worries and risk involved with buying used equipment. The program is called “Distributor-Qualified Used Equipment.”

“If one of our Komatsu machines carries the Distributor-Qualified signs, it means the machine has been completely inspected and evaluated,” said Bill Smith, used equipment manager, Binder Machinery Co. “It also means that Binder Machinery Co. is going to tell you exactly what you are buying. We’re trying to eliminate guesswork and provide the purchaser some piece of mind.”

Unlike machines sold “as is,” Distributor-Qualified machines sold by Binder are inspected and repaired, if necessary, to bring the machine up to the standards set by Komatsu. Fluids are analyzed, hydraulic pressures are checked and adjusted to factory specifications, undercarriages are measured and many other inspections are performed. After all checks and needed repairs are performed the machine is re-evaluated by a trained Binder technician and given a rating based on precise criteria.

“Komatsu has five ratings standards for used machines,” Smith explained. “The ranges are from A-Standard, which is a top-of-the-line, almost like new machine, down to an E-Standard which is basically a parts machine.”

In addition to the inspection, repair, re-evaluation and rating, warranty coverage can be purchased in six-month, 1,000-hour intervals for up to 24 months and up to 4,000 hours for any used Komatsu Binder Distributor-Qualified machine. Warranty will cover the powertrain, and the machine must be less than six years old and have fewer than 8,000 hours.

A Binder Machinery Company, Distributor-Qualified used machine can be customized and outfitted with specific attachments to meet any customer’s needs. Special financing options also are available.

“With Komatsu’s new Distributor-Qualified program, Binder Machinery Company believes we’re raising the bar and setting a new standard in the used equipment field, and we’re guaranteeing it,” Smith said. “At Binder Machinery Co., we’re trying to eliminate all reasonable risk associated with buying used equipment. We want our customers to know exactly what they’re getting so the only decision they have to make is whether it’s the right machine for the job and does it make economic sense.”
