President Trump has included a request of $1.6 billion for construction of the border wall in a spending bill for the U.S. Department of Defense, along with other agencies. The bill is expected to be voted on later this week, KTAR News reported.

The money President Trump has requested would pay for construction of 74 miles of the wall, which includes fencing.

Congressman Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., has expressed his support of building a border wall, and earlier this year he proposed spending $1.4 billion for its construction, according to KTAR News.

Congressman Rueben Gallego, D-Ariz., said he feels the request should not be included in the defense spending bill, but should instead be created into a separate bill.

According to Gallego, “Members of Congress who care deeply about our national defense shouldn't be forced to decide between voting for this nonsensical proposal and voting to fund our military,” KTAR News reported.

Earlier this year, a conservation group and an Arizona congressman filed a federal lawsuit against the proposed border wall.
