To help repair borough streets and sewer lines, Topton Borough, PA, supervisors have purchased a Cat 416C-IT backhoe loader from Giles & Ransome (G&R). The borough will also use the machine for general borough upkeep.
The backhoe loader has several distinctive features including an integrated tool carrier, which allows the machine to be used for multiple purposes without downtime for attachment changes. In addition, the township can rent attachments such as pallet forks, blades, asphalt cutters, brooms, and general-purpose and multi-purpose buckets when needed — eliminating the need for them to purchase each one individually.
Kevin Tobias, Topton Borough manager, knew neighboring municipalities were pleased with Caterpillar equipment and wanted to make the same investment.
"We wanted to buy Cat because we knew our neighbors, who have similar needs and responsibilities as we do, were satisfied with their equipment. We also liked the versatility the integrated tool carrier provides as well as the overall design of the machine," Tobias said.
The borough also had budgetary guidelines to adhere to, which Tom McLaughlin, governmental sales representative, G & R, accommodated.
"Since boroughs are often restricted to spending a certain amount of money, it's really important for G&R to adapt to their needs. To help Topton meet their financial guidelines, we offered them flexible financing, which enabled them to purchase the equipment that best suited their community's needs in payment plans," said McLaughlin.
Tobias also noted that even though Topton is a smaller borough, G & R's personnel made him feel as though his needs were just as important as any other borough or township.
"We have responsibilities to our community, as does every borough. But because we are smaller, we need a piece of equipment that serves multiple purposes and is dependable. Tom McLaughlin assessed our needs and helped us choose, what we feel, is the best possible machine for Topton. The friendly and knowledgeable sales support we received reassured us we made a smart investment," said Tobias.
