A substantial donation from the Caterpillar Foundation is helping to feed Illinois residents.

The Peoria Area Food Bank recently announced a grant from the Foundation totaling $169,034 for needy families in Peoria and Tazewell counties, Central Illinois Proud reported. The funds will pay for more than 100,000 meals, and will aid more than 40,000 local residents, including over 16,000 children.

"The Caterpillar Foundation is committed to supporting programs that alleviate poverty," said Caterpillar Foundation President Michele Sullivan. "We are proud to partner with Peoria Area Food Bank to support our neighbors who struggle with hunger."

"Peoria Area Food Bank is thankful to the Caterpillar Foundation for its commitment to fighting hunger and supporting families in need in our community," said Peoria Area Food Bank Manager Jeanette Wennmacher. "Because of this grant, we will be able to better serve families and children in need."

Peoria Area Food Bank is a member of the Feeding America network, and was one of 30 food banks who received the grant, Central Illinois Proud reported.
