HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Connecticut’s Department of Transportation is replacing 114 of its aging plow trucks with new vehicles in preparation for the upcoming winter season.
The agency has a snow and ice fleet consisting of 632 trucks. DOT said 275 have been identified as overdue for replacement. State officials said they plan to retire 114 of the outdated trucks as the new ones are delivered.
While the average life of a typical snow plow truck is 12 years, state officials said those being replaced average about 16 years.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the state is “preparing for winter weather like never before.” DOT is currently stockpiling salt and liquid deicers and installing longer-wear plow blades.
DOT also is adding two trucks dedicated to the CTfastrak bus-only lane between Hartford and New Britain.
