The New York Post is reporting that a construction firm involved in the renovation of City Hall claims it is owed $12,570,174 for extra work — because there were so many change orders that the project was extended by two years.
Hill International Inc., brought the case to the city Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings on behalf of Plaza Construction, which was a subcontractor on the $150 million job.
The OATH board dismissed the petition on a technicality.
“The petition asserts that during the course of the work, [the Department of Design and Construction] and Hill issued more than 600 formal and informal directives under which Plaza was ordered to make modifications,” the Feb. 16 decision reads.
The board ruled that Hill's petition was not filed within 60 days after it had brought the dispute to the Comptroller's Office and, therefore, had to be dismissed.
