Construction Worker Killed in Wall Collapse

RAMSEY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a construction worker was killed when a cinderblock wall fell on him at an industrial building in northern New Jersey.

Ramsey police tell The Record ( http://bit.ly/1DPsIHq) that the man, identified only as a 56-year-old Riverdale resident, was working outside a building in the Bergen County community when a 9-by-12-foot section of the wall fell on him around 11:30 a.m.

Emergency responders found the man trapped beneath cinderblocks on the west side of the building. He was taken to a hospital, but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

The victim and other workers were removing the wall in preparation for the construction of a garage door into the building when the accident occurred. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
