The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites all, from seasoned cyclists to interested newbies, to participate in Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 19.

Bike to Work Day is a regional event run in partnership by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. More than 18,000 people are expected to participate in this year's event. The goal: To celebrate bicycling as a clean, fun, and healthy way to get to work.

“Bike to Work Day participation has been growing steadily over the years, and we are excited to be a part of this popular regional event,” said Leif Dormsjo, DDOT Director. “The District has more than 145 miles of bike lanes and trails for residents, commuters, and visitors to ride on and explore. Each individual who participates in Bike to Work Day is helping the District reduce single-occupancy vehicle use and congestion.”

DDOT will host a pit stop in Anacostia, and the goDCgo team will be on site from 7 am to 9 am to greet cyclists. DDOT staff will also be at Freedom Plaza, the District's flagship pit stop. At each pit stop in the District, staff will hand out giveaways, information about active transportation options, and goDCgo's new DC Bike Map 2017.

For those without personal bicycles, Capital Bikeshare offers a $2 single trip fare. Walk up to any Capital Bikeshare kiosk, and follow the on-screen instructions to purchase a single, 30-minute trip.
