Contractors Sales Company was founded by Albert J. Mantica in 1923 in Green Island, N.Y., as a supplier of industrial hardware. Soon after, the company expanded into construction equipment. In the 1930s, Al Mantica moved the company to Menands, N.Y., and became a distributor for Allis Chalmers. In the 1940s, Contractors Sales became a Rex dealer and in the 1950s, the company moved to its current location on Karner Road in Albany, N.Y.. During the 1950s and 1960s, the company operated branches in Syracuse and Watertown, N.Y., so that it could be involved in the construction of the New York State Thruway and the St. Lawrence Seaway projects.
