Deere & Company is among 25 employers in 17 states named as "Best Employers for Workers over 50" by the AARP - an award that is the only one of its kind in the country. AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to making

life better for people 50 and over.

In announcing this year’s Best Employers, AARP President Jim Parkel said the list highlights the outstanding efforts of employers to give employees aged 50 and older greater flexibility and training to upgrade their skills. He said this emphasis is a sure indicator of the growing importance of the older worker to the success of individual companies.

AARP said that each of the honorees excelled in many of the categories that evaluated. The criteria include recruitment practices (including former or retired employees), continuing opportunities for advancement, flexible work schedules, and benefits for current and retired employees.

"This award is significant in that it highlights Deere & Company’s overall efforts to attract and retain employees from all segments of the population. We are honored to be named to the list and view it as recognition of our efforts to provide continuing career opportunities for our employees," said Mert Hornbuckle, vice president, Human Resources, Deere & Company.

The AARP Best Employers for Workers over 50 will be honored at a dinner in New York City on Sept. 24. AARP said the honorees were selected after it invited to apply for the Best Employer designation by describing their innovative practices toward 50 and over workers in an extensive questionnaire.
