Contractors, builders and equipment professionals from across southern Connecticut gathered Dec. 4, 2025, in Windsor, Conn., for a trade show experience that broke away from the traditional indoor format.

Known as "Dirt Tech," the one-day outdoor event was held at SiteOne Landscape Supply and was produced by Audience Development Strategies. Billed as the "ultimate hands-on experience for construction and landscaping professionals," Dirt Tech combined equipment demonstrations, vendor interaction and live machine operation in an open, working environment.

Rather than static displays or roped-off equipment, Dirt Tech offered attendees the rare opportunity to get behind the controls of today's most advanced construction machines. A wide range of heavy equipment was on hand, including excavators, loaders, pavers, cranes and more. Contractors were able to climb into the cabs, operate machines in designated demo areas and experience firsthand how new technologies are improving productivity, efficiency and jobsite safety.

Equally important, attendees had direct access to the dealers and manufacturers behind the equipment. Conversations went beyond brochures and spec sheets, allowing contractors to ask real-world questions, explore new innovations and discuss how specific machines and technologies could fit into their operations.

While heavy iron was a major draw, Dirt Tech extended well beyond equipment. The event featured a broad mix of vendors representing products, services and solutions from across the construction and landscaping industries. Exhibitors included subcontractors, material suppliers, insurance brokers and software providers, creating a comprehensive environment for contractors looking to connect with partners who support every phase of a project.

Admission to the event was free, helping drive strong turnout throughout the day. Attendees were welcomed with hot coffee, a chocolate bar and pastries in the morning, followed by lunch provided by the Big Green Pizza Truck. Organizers reported that hundreds of contractors attended, including representatives from utility contracting firms, landscaping companies and general contractors.

By combining live equipment demos, face-to-face access to industry experts and a relaxed outdoor setting, Dirt Tech delivered a unique and highly interactive trade show experience. The event highlighted a growing trend toward hands-on demonstrations that allow contractors to truly evaluate equipment and solutions before making purchasing decisions. CEG
