Elliott Helps Tornado Cleanup

Construction Equipment Guide

In May 2004, a tornado devastated the town of Hallum, NE, ravaging homes, schools and businesses in the Nebraska community.

Tornadoes are a somewhat common event in Nebraska, but the damage from this storm was far more severe than most. Cleanup crews from Nebraska Public Power were at the scene almost immediately, to coordinate the repair of all the lines, poles and structures taken down by the storm.

Among those called to help out were Brink Electric Construction in Rapid City, SD, and Capitol Equipment Rentals of Omaha. Capitol supplied Brink Electric with an Elliott 1870 boom truck to assist in stringing the new power cable.

“Brink Electric was looking for something that was heavy-duty enough to do the job and offered quick setup,” said Capitol Rentals General Manager Herb Fuhrman. “They also liked the operator amenities on the Elliott boom truck.”

The 1870 features an 18 ton (16.2 t) maximum capacity and the unit supplied to Brink Electric came with radio remotes and a one-worker basket that can be mounted to the fully extended two-stage jib, giving 120 ft. (36.6 m) of working height.

Each unit Elliott Equipment Company offers can be fully customized to meet customers’ requirements on the job site. Every unit is tested and certified to fully comply with the latest ANSI and OSHA regulations.

Elliott also provides a 24-hour emergency service assistance line for customer questions.
