WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) Gehl Co. will keep its headquarters here after receiving a $7 million incentive package from the state and local governments.

The 158-year-old company makes motorized cranes and loaders for construction and farming. Its three production facilities have already moved out of state, and the company was prepared to move its headquarters too, said Jim Paetsch, director of corporate expansion and relocation for the seven-county Milwaukee 7 economic-strategy group.

The company will remain here after the city and Washington County offered $5 million in incentives and the state chipped in another $2 million.

Gehl will pay an additional $13 million for a $20 million expansion of its headquarters and research-and-development facilities in West Bend, according to Paetsch and a statement from Gov. Jim Doyle’s office.

The expansion will add 87 jobs over the next four years to the 191 that already exist, Doyle’s office said.
