GUCA Heads to Capitol for Lobby Day 2008

Georgia Utility Contractors Association (GUCA) Inc. held its annual Lobby Day Feb. 12 at the Georgia Capitol.

More than 30 GUCA members enjoyed a free breakfast buffet before being welcomed by GUCA President Rich Nudi, Reynolds Inc. GUCA Lobbyist Mo Thrash then presented the group with the 2008 Legislative Session Updates.

GUCA had special guest speakers from the House and Senate, who discussed key legislative session issues that pertain to utility contractors. Presenters included: GUCA Member Sen. Chip Pearson, Sen. Mitch Seabaugh, Sen. Chip Rogers, Rep. Jeff Lewis, Rep. Alan Powell and Secretary of State Karen Handel. Topics discussed include setting the fiscal budget, state income tax code revisions, small business ventures and economic growth and development, contractor licensing law and lien law changes.

Thrash gave the GUCA members an update on what is occurring at the Capitol and upcoming legislation.

Following the presentations, GUCA members were given a tour of the Capitol. Members went to the Senate and House chambers to watch the opening of the session and talk to the legislators.
