TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — One of the world’s largest floating cranes has arrived in New York, where it will be used to build the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/1hWzMpU) that the 400-foot-long Left Coast Lifter arrived in New York Harbor on Thursday, a little more than a month after it departed from the San Francisco area to begin its 6,000-mile voyage to the East Coast.
The vessel will be docked at the Port of New York and New Jersey’s facility in Jersey City before being moved up the Hudson River.
The crane will be used to replace the current bridge connecting Rockland and Westchester counties. The new $3.9 billion bridge is supposed to open in 2018.
The floating crane can lift 1,750 metric tons, or 12 times the weight of the Statue of Liberty.
