JASPER, Ind. (AP) A 6-year-old southern Indiana boy with a passion for recycling has started an aluminum can recycling service to save up for college.

Eli Harting travels around the city of Jasper every two weeks with his father, collecting and crushing cans for recycling.

He's saving the money he makes for college and to get a bigger truck for his business in the city about 50 miles northeast of Evansville.

Harting told WFIE-TV that recycling is “good for the environment” but it's also fun. He started his recycling service after watching his grandfather last summer using a can crusher to smash cans for recycling at a salvage yard.

Harting initially collected cans from relatives before expanding to gather them from others. He recently added a drop-off recycling bin to his front yard.
