Kirby-Smith Holds Annual Paving Seminar in?Arlington

Kirby-Smith Machinery, Inc. held its annual paving seminar Feb. 21 in Arlington, Texas at the Arlington Convention Center. Glen Townsend, vice president and general manager of Kirby-Smith, welcomed the 471 participants attending from paving and governmental agencies throughout north Texas including TXDOT engineers, street and highway departments, major highway paving contractors and commercial engineering firms.

“The annual paving seminars are a free event for all the participants,” said Kirby-Smith Director of Marketing and Sales George Denny. “Ed Kirby, owner of Kirby-Smith, has always given back to the industry and attributes this attitude to his 29 years of success in the industry.

“By providing these educational seminars to inform the industry of new paving techniques and best practices Mr. Kirby feels he is providing the paving industry with information that can help lower the overall costs of paving, increase productivity while providing a better end product.” Denny concluded.

Kirby-Smith and Wirtgen America co-sponsored the event to impart best practices paving techniques to the industry. Representatives including from Jeff Wiley and Jim Holland of Wirtgen America; Richard Evans and Tim Kowalski of Hamm products; L. “Nars” Narsingh and Mark Stang of Vögele; and Martin Morgan and Sean Grieve of Doppstadt US conducted the breakout sessions. The sessions included Compaction 101, Advanced Compaction, Paving 101, Advanced Paving, Milling, Stabilization and Shingle Recycling & Hot Mix Asphalt.

A luncheon was served on site and more than 8 million dollars of Kirby-Smith paving equipment was on display for the participants to examine. Included in the displays were the Wirtgen W210 Mill and W2400 Soil Stabilizer; a Hamm HD140+VV double drum asphalt roller, a Hamm HD14, a Hamm 3410-P pad foot roller and a Hamm GRW 280 pneumatic roller; a Vögele 5203-2 highway class rubber tired asphalt paver and a Vögele Super 700 tracked asphalt street/parking lot class paver.

As a backdrop to the exhibit, Kirby-Smith displayed the Kleemann MC110Z, 97000 # crusher. Kirby-Smith is one of the largest Komatsu and Gradall distributors in the U.S., displaying a Komatsu PC138 excavator, a Komatsu WA200-6 wheel loader and a Gradall XL 3100 rubber tired excavator during the event

The Doppstadt AK530 asphalt shingle recycler also received a lot of attention during the seminar. An Atlas Copco XAS 185 JD7 air compressor and a Broce Broom MK-1 transfer sweeper were also exhibited.
