Philippi-Hagenbuch Inc. (PHIL) announced LeRoy G. Hagenbuch’s induction into the inaugural class of the Pit & Quarry Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony took place during the NSSGA Annual Meeting March 17, 2013, in San Antonio. Pit & Quarry, through its new Hall of Fame, recognizes, celebrates and preserves the history of outstanding leaders in the aggregates industry. The publication seeks to broaden public understanding and appreciation of the industry’s role in the past as well as the future of global economic and social prosperity.

LeRoy G. Hagenbuch is chief engineer and cofounder of the engineering and manufacturing firm Philippi-Hagenbuch Inc., which is located in Peoria, Ill. His patent for the first commercially available tailgate designed for off-highway haul trucks was just the beginning for Hagenbuch, who is now credited with more than 80 patents in the United States and internationally. His numerous inventions and improvements over the years have advanced quarry efficiency. Among them are innovations that have enhanced rock hauling, reduced overburden and minimized material carryback.

Hagenbuch’s most recent patent refines access to the inside of water tanks and improves safety for those who enter them. Personnel can enter the water tank and traverse its bulkheads easily and unencumbered because of the industry’s first full-sized access doors.

Hagenbuch has made outreach and industry progress a priority in his career. He has written white papers on vital industry topics, spoken at conferences and trade shows worldwide and been active with many associations on behalf of the industry.

His operating philosophy has been to extend the safety focus beyond just training and awareness; each PHIL engineer is challenged on the safety of their product designs, as well. In addition, each staff and production meeting at the company starts with a discussion of a critical safety topic.

Hagenbuch is a member of many state and national business and industry associations. He currently serves on the boards of directors for the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA) and the National Mining Association Manufacturing Council (NMA). He is a past chairman of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association’s Small Manufacturers Council (IMA-SMC) and a past member of the board of directors for the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association Manufacturers and Suppliers Council (NSSGA). Additionally, he participates in the Wyoming Mining Association (WMA), the Mining Associates of Wyoming (MAW), the Association of Equipment Dealers (AED), the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute (RMCMI), the Association of Iron and Steel Technologies (AIST), the Master Mechanics, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the American Society of Mining Engineers (SME).
