Link-Belt Loads Into Wee Hours

Construction Equipment Guide

Houston, TX-based M-I L.L.C. is all too familiar with the rigors of loading and offloading offshore supply boats, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the stresses it places on the cranes that do the work. That’s the reason M-I recently purchased three new Link-Belt hydraulic crawler cranes from Con-Equip Inc. for their operations in Cameron and Fourchon Dock, LA.

When M-I L.L.C called Con-Equip Inc., based in Houston, TX, Area Sales Manager Rod Dundas told them how the Link-Belt LS-208II 80-ton (72 t) hydraulic crawler cranes are specifically designed for severe duty-cycle applications. “With the powerful 263 horsepower Mitsubishi diesel power, and dual bi-directional swing motors,” said Dundas, “M-I will see a significant decrease in machine downtime compared to their current fleet of cranes. With the constant swinging, hoisting and lowering that this application requires, this was the right machine for the job.”

Another major benefit the new Link-Belt cranes provide is that they are all hydraulic. “The smoothness, precision and safety of these machines are light-years ahead of the friction cranes,” said Dundas. “And, with the smooth hydraulic controls and modern cab, the Link-Belts also are a lot more comfortable for the operator.”

M-I is operating these machines with 80-ft. (24 m) and 70-ft. (21 m) boom lengths.

M-I L.L.C. is a merger of Macogbar and IMCO. The supply boats they service deliver supplies offshore to many of the major oil companies and offshore contractors that operate in the Gulf of Mexico.

Con-Equip, based in Houston, TX, also has offices in Dallas and San Antonio, TX. For more information, call 800/234-5007.
