In a wave of press releases, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) alerted the traveling public to a wide variety of construction projects that began July 10.

The one that will likely affect the most motorists will be the stretch of I-75 from the Mackinac County line north to M-48 and another stretch on M-221 north to 7 1/2 Mile Road.

The two projects under this particular banner have a tentative completions date of Aug. 11, according to Dan Weingarten of MDOT's Office of Communications. The good news, for passing motorists, is that the $400,000 project to line culverts and improve drainage calls for maintaining traffic with only single-lane closures and a 12-foot width restriction.

Also on Monday, MDOT will be investing $560,000 to treat cracks and resurface a seven-mile stretch of M-123 from County Road 407 to just north of Murphy Creek in Luce County. Construction crews will also be conducting shoulder work and installing centerline rumble strips utilizing alternating traffic and flag control to guide vehicles through the site.

The Luce County project is scheduled to wrap up on Aug. 18.

M-123 will also see more than $1 million invested by MDOT into the installation of a 20-foot wide concrete box culvert over Black Creek near Paradise. MDOT expects to alternate traffic with a temporary traffic signal as crews make upgrades to the paving and guardrails as well.

The Black Creek culvert should be completed sometime in September, according to MDOT officials.
