DETROIT (AP) The state Department of Transportation has scheduled $478 million in road projects for southeast Michigan.

That includes $200 million in repairs within the city of Detroit, fueled in part by the need to spruce up the city for the 2006 Super Bowl and baseball’s All-Star Game next year.

Projects include work on Interstate 94 in Taylor, northbound Interstate 75 between M-15 in Clarkston and Interstate 475 near Flint.

One that will be sure to frustrate commuters is a five-month-long shutdown of a portion of the Lodge Freeway where it passes over I-94. The $5.7 million reconstruction of the bridges that carry the north and southbound Lodge over I-94 will close the freeway between April and August and will force 134,000 drivers a day to seek alternate routes.

Construction is expected to begin in March, barring major weather developments. An exact date has not been set, The Detroit News reported Sunday.
