On March 9, Monroe Tractor, the Central and Western New York dealer of Wirtgen milling machines, Vogele pavers and Hamm compaction equipment, held a paving and compaction seminar at the RIT Inn and Conference Center in Henrietta, N.Y.
The class was well attended by paving contractors and municipalities from across the region.
The morning session was conducted by noted industry expert Nars Narsingh, who spoke on principles of the free floating screed; identifying operation and design issues that affect smoothness and density; and segregation location, causes and solutions.
The afternoon presentation was conducted by Tim Kowalski, an asphalt compaction specialist who spoke on amplitude and centrifugal forces; frequency and rolling speed; rolling pattern techniques; and fine tuning the compactor to various mixes and temperatures.
