The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) welcomed passage by the United States Senate in an 89-10 vote of legislation to implement the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
"USMCA provides greater certainty for NEMA members working with partners in Mexico and Canada and contains many positive provisions for the U.S. electroindustry in the areas of market access, Standards and conformity assessment, and regulatory cooperation," said NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff.
"We look forward to the President's signature and to working with the administration, Congress and our North American counterpart associations on the successful implementation of this important agreement," Cosgriff said.
Negotiations for the new trade agreement concluded in October 2018. In early December 2019, additional USMCA commitments were agreed by the United States, Mexico and Canada, enabling timely consideration and passage of implementing legislation by Congress. The date of entry into force of USMCA is to be determined.
