New York-Area Trades Council Offers Training, Jobs for Northland Corridor Project

Attention wanna-be carpenters, laborers, electricians, plumbers and iron workers.

Applications are available for the pre-apprenticeship program for New York's Northland Corridor Project. Construction experience not required.

The paid training program includes construction-related mathematics, job search training and exposure to various fields of skilled labor. Those who complete the program have a pathway to full-apprenticeships and careers in construction trades.

The small groups will be taught by journeymen from Buffalo Building and Construction Trades Council.

The program is part of a labor agreement between the trades council and the Buffalo Urban Development Corp. for the $60 million Northland Corridor Project.

Applicants must be high school graduates or have a GED, have a learner's permit or driver's license or reliable transportation, be authorized to work in the United States and pass a drug test.

Application forms are available at the Buffalo Employment Training Center, 77 Goodell St., the Northland construction site at 683 Northland Ave. and at 18 Tracy St., where the Compliance & Administrative Services of New York is located.

Application deadlines for the various training classes are July 24, Sept. 24, Oct. 16 and Nov. 27.
