As the season of giving approaches, a Toronto-area heavy equipment dealer is embracing the spirit early by donating a battery-powered wheel loader to a nonprofit housing organization.
Nors, which operates 10 dealership locations across Ontario, teamed up with Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) to deliver an L25 electric compact wheel loader to Habitat for Humanity — Greater Toronto Area (Habitat GTA).
Homebuilding staff and volunteers will use the zero-emission machine for site prep and construction, allowing them to achieve Habitat GTA's mission of building affordable housing in a quieter, more environmentally friendly way.
"Our construction team is busier than we've ever been, with four projects under way and plans for nearly 200 homes in the coming years," said Ene Underwood, CEO of Habitat GTA. "Much of our equipment is older than some of our volunteers, so we are grateful for this generous and forward-thinking donation."
Underwood noted that the Volvo L25 electric loader is the first electric construction machine they've had, and this is the first time they've received a donation of such a major piece of equipment. It will be put to work right away on a 30-home project in Brampton.
The donation marks the first of three planned contributions under Nors' newly launched campaign, "Compact Solutions, Community Impact," which aims to empower nonprofit organizations with sustainable construction equipment.

The Volvo L25 electric loader delivers performance without the noise or emissions typically associated with diesel-powered equipment.

Volvo CE electric machines have nearly identical specs to their diesel equivalents, allowing Habitat GTA crews to maintain productivity and efficiency while reducing their carbon footprint.
Teaming Up for Housing, Environmental Care
This is the first collaboration between Nors and Habitat GTA — a partnership rooted in shared values.
"This donation and the campaign are about more than equipment — they are about people and progress," said Francisco Ramos, Nors' COO responsible for the company's construction equipment segment. "We're committed to helping communities build a cleaner, more efficient future by putting electric equipment directly in the hands of those driving positive change."
Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built 26 new communities and housed more than 600 families in Toronto, Brampton, Caledon, York region and Durham region. They're supported by tens of thousands of volunteers who contribute approximately 100,000 hours each year.
Nors' "Compact Solutions, Community Impact" campaign invites Canadians to submit nominations and share input on nonprofit organizations or municipalities that could benefit from the donation of a Volvo CE compact electric machine. This initiative is a public consultation, not a contest.
Final recipients will be selected by a review panel from Nors and Volvo CE, based on eligibility and community impact. Public input will help inform the decision, but Nors retains sole discretion in selecting the recipient organizations in its eastern and western territories.
Nominations are welcome through Nov. 22 on the campaign website, and input will be gathered from Nov. 25 through Dec. 10. The two recipients will be announced Dec. 16.
