A legislative contingent signed a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, asking the agency to stop the project while the state reviews the pipeline, which carries natural gas from Pennsylvania to New England.

"The issue is about health and safety in this area with a gas pipeline — 42 inches — running alongside a nuclear plant just down a number of feet away," Assemblywoman Sandy Galef said outside St. Patrick's Church Cemetery on Broadway.
