The Journal News is reporting that local officials convened Monday to ask regulators to shut down construction on the Algonquin natural gas pipeline project that traverses the region.
A legislative contingent signed a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, asking the agency to stop the project while the state reviews the pipeline, which carries natural gas from Pennsylvania to New England.
"The issue is about health and safety in this area with a gas pipeline — 42 inches — running alongside a nuclear plant just down a number of feet away," Assemblywoman Sandy Galef said outside St. Patrick's Church Cemetery on Broadway.
