New safety rules are going into effect for construction contractors this year.
The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division said now when working at a height of six feet or higher, workers need to use fall protection, like a harness. Local contractors said these changes take extra money and time.
"The costs are going to go right back to the homeowner. We're going to have to bid the jobs accordingly so it will affect the homeowner in buying the home," said Jason Heges with Moore Construction.
Starting October first, slide guards will no longer be allowed as a method of protecting workers from falling off of sloped roofs. Nationwide, the construction industry has the greatest number of traumatic brain injuries in a workplace.
