The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on Oct. 3 released the Record of Decision (ROD) for the West Davis Corridor. The ROD is the final step in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process.

The ROD approves UDOT's preferred alternative for a new 19-mi. highway from Farmington to West Point, connecting with I-15 and Legacy Parkway at Glovers Lane on the south end and S.R. 37 (1800 North) at approximately 4000 West on the north end. The new highway will improve mobility through 2040 in western Davis and Weber counties.

“This decision has been reached carefully and with great respect for the collaborative efforts of thousands of stakeholders over several years,” said Randy Jefferies, UDOT project manager. “We will continue working closely with cities, agencies, and other stakeholders as we move into the more detailed design for this new corridor.”

The ROD includes responses to comments received regarding the Final EIS for the West Davis Corridor. In addition, the document outlines specific requirements for mitigation that must be met during design and construction of the corridor. The ROD is available for review on the project website, udot.utah.gov/westdavis.

The Utah Transportation Commission recently approved funding for construction of the first phase of the West Davis Corridor — from Farmington to Syracuse. Design and property acquisition for the highway will take place in 2018 and 2019, followed by construction starting in 2020. This first phase of the new corridor is anticipated to be open by 2022.
