Rogers Group Inc. has completed the widening project along Interstate 24 in Rutherford County, Tenn., five months ahead of the June 2008 estimated completion date.

Motorists along this highly traveled stretch of I-24 will now be able to use four travel lanes in each direction from State Route 96 to U.S. 231, as well as a new interchange at State Route 99.

“Murfreesboro is one of Tennessee’s fastest growing cities,” said TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely. “This project will ease some of the congestion in this area during the peak travel times and the new exit at Highway 99 will be an added convenience for thousands of motorists.”

More than 180,000 tons (163,000 t) of asphalt, 18,734 cu. yd. (14,300 cu m) of concrete and 616 tons (560 t) of steel were used in the construction of the project.

TDOT traffic counts estimate nearly 87,000 vehicles use this stretch of Interstate 24 each day.

There is some minor detail work on this project that will be completed over the next several weeks. That work will be conducted during off-peak travel hours, and should have minimal impacts on traffic flow.
