BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - A Hancock County rubbish pit operator is paying a $40,000 civil fine because it failed to stop unauthorized waste from being dumped and wasn’t covering waste with dirt.
King Construction and Environmental Services agreed to pay the fine to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality. The regulator cited King for five violations over the operation of the Bay St. Louis dump, mainly regarding its failure to inspect for and remove unauthorized waste.
King is based in Bay St. Louis.
Richard Santiago, the managing member of King, signed the April 1 order, agreeing to waive hearing rights and pay the fine.
