Skanska, a leading construction firm, has signed a $77 million contract with Hillsborough County Public Schools to rebuild Stewart Middle Magnet School, designed as a combined campus with the adjacent Just Elementary School. This project marks a significant milestone in revitalizing educational facilities to meet the educational needs of Tampa's rising student population.

The project includes the demolition and rebuilding of Stewart Middle Magnet School and the development of a modernized, shared campus that supports both the middle and elementary school students. Designed by FleischmanGarciaMaslowski Architecture, the new facility will encompass more than 135,000 sq. ft. of educational space. Stewart Middle Magnet School will provide capacity for more than 1,000 student stations, while Just Elementary School will serve more than 530 students.

The integrated campus will feature shared amenities, including a cafeteria and a media center designed to support collaboration and efficient use of space. The existing gymnasium at Stewart Middle Magnet School will remain on campus and will receive new lighting installations and code upgrades as part of the school campus redevelopment project.

"As Hillsborough County Public Schools continues to invest in modern educational facilities, this project will deliver a thoughtfully designed learning environment that supports both academic success and community needs," said Daniel Abou-Jaoude, vice president of Skanska. "Our construction team brings extensive experience delivering K-12 schools across Florida, and we are proud to partner with the school district to build a modernized campus that will serve students for generations to come."

Construction of the two schools is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028.

Skanska is leading approximately $400 million worth of work on various educational projects throughout Florida in Osceola, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, Marion and Lee Counties.
