Staker Parson Materials & Construction, a CRH company, hosted the first round of students attending Utah Diesel Technician Pathways (UDTP) Program in northern Utah. The students met at the Ogden equipment shop to job-shadow Brian Barker, mechanic of Staker Parson Materials & Construction for more than 15 years. Barker shared some of his experience working in the industry and the students were able to gain hands-on experience with some of the equipment used in the industry and get a taste of what it's like to be part of the Staker Parson family.

"It's great to be able to bring the students to our shop and see their eyes just light up with excitement," said Barker. "We were able to show them some of our equipment and the normal repairs we make. I think they really enjoyed seeing all the different things we have to offer. We have a great shop, up to date equipment, new technology, and we train people. What more could you ask for?"

Staker Parson Materials & Construction takes pride in being a leader in quality building materials while being a very active member of the community.

"With all the UDTP partners involved, students have the chance to experience, first hand, what it's like to work in different businesses with different equipment. Diesel mechanics encompasses so many different things, from trains to trucks, as well as heavy equipment. If you crave variety, that's what we do in our shop," Joe Allen, equipment manager of northern Utah, said.

Staker Parson Materials & Construction is one of many local companies involved in the Utah Diesel Technician Pathways program in Northern Utah. This is one of the first job-shadow opportunities in the UDTP and Staker Parson looks forward to more visits by students.

The goal is to improve the quality of technicians in the company and in the industry. This is a direct example of the Staker Parson team, putting its guiding principle, Make Businesses Better, to work in the community.
