YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - The state has fined a construction company $35,000 for conditions at an Ypsilanti building where a worker died following a floor collapse in May.
The Ann Arbor News reports (http://bit.ly/1PzNIJX ) the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued five citations to Beal Construction Services for what it deemed ”serious’ violations of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act.
The citations issued last month describe a construction area that wasn’t properly prepared, inspected or cleared including during the time when 38-year-old Jeremy ”Jake’ Burd of the Monroe County community of Maybee was killed at the Thompson Block site.
Lawyers for Beal Construction are appealing and dispute the citations.
Neil Miller, the lawyer representing Burd’s family, says the citations show Beal Construction was at fault and Burd’s death could have been avoided.
