Construction Equipment Guide

Intermodal 2010 marked a new phase for Terex. During the event, the company showed visitors the service and product offerings from the Terex Port Equipment business. Visitors found equipment such as reach stackers for containers, forklifts, front-end stackers for containers, MHC — mobile harbor cranes, RTG — rubber tired gantry cranes, RMG — rail mounted gantry cranes, straddle carriers (for transporting containers), quay cranes — STS (ship to shore) and truck cranes, which assist in port operations, port and rail terminals, warehouses and logistic centers.

“Terex is the market leader in the number of reach stackers on the Brazilian market, with a 50 percent share, and we also hope to obtain excellent results with the new equipment that is now available from Terex Port Equipment,” said Thomas Ostermann, vice-president and managing director of Terex Cranes. The company sold six pieces of equipment at Intermodal.

The possible extension of the Lei do Reporto (law for the modernization and enhancement of ports with tax exemption in the purchase of new equipment), which initially has been extended to Dec. 31, 2011, will help drive market demand for these products. The Lei do Reporto encourages port operators to purchase new equipment by means of a 100 percent tax exemption.

Manufactured in Italy, Germany, France and China, the products from Terex Port Equipment have capacities ranging from 3.3 to 220 tons (3 to 200 t). There are more than 11 lines of equipment, including models of reach stackers for containers, quay and courtyard cranes, stacking and transportation, and side-lift trucks.
