SALADO, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a tractor-trailer has crashed into an overpass under construction along a major interstate in Central Texas, killing one person and halting traffic in both directions.

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Becky Ozuna says the truck hit a beam being used to build a bridge across Interstate 35 on Thursday morning in Salado (suh-LAY'-doh), about 40 miles north of Austin. She says several beams then toppled onto other vehicles.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Trooper D.L. Wilson says one person was killed and other people were injured, but he didn't immediately have further details.
