Tyson Foods has announced plans to invest $84 million in expanding its Union City, Tenn., poultry plant. Tyson said the project, which should be complete by mid-2019, is expected to add more than 300 jobs.
Construction, slated to start in the fall of this year, will focus on:
- Increasing capacity in the plant's harvest area
- Adding processing lines
- Upgrading supporting operations at the hatchery, feed mill and in transportation, and
- Adding 25,000 sq. ft. to the facility.
"Customer and consumer demand for protein, especially chicken, is increasing so we're investing in projects that build on our strengths, expand our capabilities and increase our capacity," said Doug Ramsey, group president of poultry. "Expansions like this position us to grow and support our customers."
