Construction Equipment Guide

The Super 1303-2 wheeled paver from Vögele America Inc. made its first North American appearance at Conexpo-Con/AGG 2011 in Las Vegas.

Just like its similarly sized tracked Super 1300-2 paver, the wheeled Super 1303-2 is a highly versatile paver of the compact equipment class which, due to their small sizes, can handle a wide range of the most varied paving tasks, including combined footpaths and bike paths, residential streets, and parking lot applications, but with the mobility advantage that rubber-tired propulsion enjoys over tracked machines, according to the manufacturer.

The powerhouse is driven by a modern Deutz engine rated 100 hp (74.5kW) @ 2,000 rpm. By achieving a maximum laydown rate of 390 tons (354 t) per hour, the Super 1303-2 is a high-performance machine when it comes to tackling major paving jobs.

The paver combines with an AB 340 extending screed in its V version.

Like all machines in Vögele’s dash 2 generation, the ErgoPlus control system lends greater safety to the job site, and higher quality to the paved product. With ErgoPlus, handling the paver is simple and intuitive, according to the manufacturer.

No component on the Super 1303-2 protrudes beyond its slim silhouette. With the hopper sides folded up, its basic transport width comes to no more than 6 ft. (1.8 m), this in conjunction with a length of just 6 ft. As a result, it can be driven nearly anywhere and fit through almost any gap. Yet it can still pave up to a width of nearly 15 ft. (4.6 m), with a small outside turning radius of 15.7 ft. (4.8 m).

To save fuel, its ECO Mode (86 hp at 1,800 rpm [64 kW]) is sufficient for most paving applications. The engine’s noise emission is further decreased when working in ECO Mode. In addition, ECO Mode reduces fuel consumption and wear.

Its powerful three-phase A.C. generator is managed to control generator output in compliance with the pave width. Heating the screed to operating temperature takes just a short time. The large cooler assembly provides for optimum cooling, even when operating at full load, thus increasing the service life of the paver systems, according to the manufacturer.

For hydraulic functions, powerful separate drives are installed operating in closed circuits. This solution allows engine output to be transformed into hydraulic paver performance.
