Volvo Rents acquired Sheffer Rents of Central Pennsylvania Inc., a single location construction equipment rental company based in York, Pa.
Previously co-owned by Volvo Rents franchisees Clint Sheffer and Susan Renoll, the center is located at 730 Neu Road in York and serves all of central Pennsylvania.
“Sheffer Rents’ commitment to customer care and local decision-making has enabled Clint and Susan to assemble an excellent team that is fully committed to the VIP-level of customer experience that Volvo Rents has become known for,” said Mike Crouch, vice president of business development of Volvo Rents. “We look forward to continuing that culture of taking care of the store’s employees and customers.”
The acquisition comes on the heels of a recent BidClerk Construction Index reporting that public sector construction in Pennsylvania’s major-metro markets increased by 19.8 percent in Q2 2012 compared to the same quarter last year. The report also showed an 11.3 percent year-on-year growth in construction.
Six of the 26 counties surveyed by the BidClerk Construction Index — including Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York — fall in the York store’s service area. Other areas served by the rental center include Adams, Franklin, Lancaster and Lebanon counties.

In addition to Volvo Rents’ expanding line of Volvo compact equipment — such as backhoe and skid steer loaders, compact wheel loaders, compact excavators and compaction equipment — the rental center carries a comprehensive line of essential equipment and tools for the construction, commercial, industrial and homeowner markets. The focus is on daily, weekly and monthly rentals.
While store hours will remain Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., Volvo Rents offers 24-hour service, every day of the week.
