Wirtgen America Inc. has become a founding sponsor of the new National Center for Pavement Preservation (NCPP) at Michigan State University (MSU).

“Wirtgen America is proud to provide seed money for the launch of the important research center,” said Stu Murray, president, Wirtgen America. “Its work will coordinate and undertake research, help identify pavement maintenance best practices, and promote the concept of pavement preservation throughout the country.”

The NCPP was dedicated Oct. 17. Located in the MSU Engineering Research Facility, the NCPP was founded earlier this year by MSU, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the Foundation for Pavement Preservation (FP2).

Pavement Preservation is a planned system of treating pavements at the optimum time to maximize their useful life, and to lower costs. Research shows that spending a dollar on pavement preservation eliminates or delays spending $6 to $10 on rehabilitation or reconstruction.
