The backhoe excavator dredge, New York, and the drill barge, Apache, are working together to remove rock fragments from blasting locations along the Delaware River near Philadelphia, Pa.
The Army Corps of Engineers is working with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company on the $350 million project, which began in 2010 and is expected to be complete in 2017. The goal is to make the port more competitive by lowering the riverbed from 40 ft. (12 m) to 45 ft. (14 m).
