Crews resumed overnight construction operations on Route 128/Interstate 95 in Needham and Wellesley as part of the ongoing Add-A-Lane project, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

In order to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct construction operations, lane closures will be implemented during weekday overnight hours at various locations on Rt. 128/I-95 north and southbound throughout the project area. The full hours for this work are 10 p.m to 5 a.m. on Monday through Friday each week. These operations are expected to continue throughout the 2018 construction season as weather conditions and operations allow.

Work and milestones that are currently expected to occur in the 2018 construction season include milling, paving, installing pavement markings and completing roadway finish items. Construction activities for this project began in January 2015 and the full beneficial use milestone is currently expected to be reached by the end of 2018.

This project is the sixth and final contract to provide an additional travel lane and shoulder toward the median on Rt. 128/I-95. The project area for this $150 million contract is an approximately 3.8-mi. segment of Rt. 128/I-95 from just north of the Needham Heights Commuter Rail Line bridge in Needham to approximately 5,000 ft. north of Route 9 in Wellesley.
