ATLANTA (AP) Georgia's governor said the state will partner with South Carolina to replace bridges crossing the Savannah River and Augusta Canal that are more than 50 years old.

Gov. Nathan Deal's office announced July 13 that the estimated $75 million project also will add lanes near the first exit on Interstate 20 in South Carolina. State officials say the Georgia and South Carolina Departments of Transportation will pay a “proportional share” of initial engineering and construction costs.

Deal's office said more than 60,000 vehicles travel on Interstate 20 around the Georgia-South Carolina line each day. The replacement bridges will include three lanes of traffic in each direction, while the highway will widen to six lanes from four around the state line.
