The American Press is reporting that Port Cameron LLC on Thursday announced that it plans to build a $1.5 billion deep-water staging port in Cameron Parish.

The Illinois-based commercial real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle Inc. will be the leasing partner at the new port complex.

Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass LNG and Sempra Energy's Cameron LNG are the other large facilities now in Cameron Parish.

In a news release, Port Cameron officials said the first phase of construction will be on 500 acres, with an additional 750 acres remaining available for future expansion. Construction is expected to begin in November.

Company officials said a recent study by a Louisiana-based economic consulting firm showed the port would create $2.8 billion in sales and about 10,000 jobs for the state when fully leased.

The port will be on the Calcasieu Ship Channel, 50 miles or so south of Interstate 10, officials said.
