MINNEAPOLIS (AP) A big crane is coming to help build the Minnesota Vikings new stadium.
The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority and Mortenson Construction say one of the largest cranes in the world will be used to help build the $1 billion stadium.
The crane started arriving at the construction site in downtown Minneapolis June 30. The crawler crane will arrive in 70 truckloads over 10 days. When assembled, the crane can lift up to 1,378 tons (1,250 t).
Assembling the crane’s sections will take about 11 days. Once erected, the crane will stand nearly 400 ft. (122 m) high. The crawler tracks are 8.5 ft. (2.6 m) high.
The crane will be on the site for about 15 months. The new stadium is due to open in 2016.
