New York Crane & Equipment Company, of Brooklyn, NY, recently received the first three of a total order of eight Favco M760 tower cranes. The Favco cranes were ordered from TES Inc. of South Kearny, NJ, a Favco distributor. Rental of five of the eight units has already been scheduled with two going to high-rise building construction in New York City and another three going to a long-term waste-water treatment project.

“There is a need for high-speed, larger capacity diesel hydraulic luffing boom cranes with up to date technology in Chicago, Boston, New York and throughout the Northeast,” said James Lomma, owner of New York Cranes.

He added, “We’re simply meeting the requests of our customers. They need a combination of large capacities and high speeds. It’s what makes these Favco cranes so popular. They’re outfitted with a full-vision cab, use electronic joystick controls and are equipped with a Cat 3406 diesel engine rated at 535 bhp.”

The Favco M760, which New York Crane ordered, has a maximum single line pull of 35 tons (31.5 t) and is capable of a maximum pick of 106 tons (95 t). Maximum boom length is 240 ft. (73.2 m) with capacities of 35 tons (31.5 t) at 25-ft. (7.6 m) radius and 5 tons (4.5 t) at 230 ft. (70 m). At the common boom length of 210 ft. (64 m), the maximum single pull capacity of 35 tons (31.5 t) is extended out to 55 ft. (17 m) and 8.5 tons (7.7 t) at 200-ft. (61 m) radius.

Main winch speed on the Favco crane is as much as 396 ft. (121 m) per minute, while the fly winch has a speed of 646 ft. (197 m) per minute with 6 tons (5.4 t) and 310 ft. (94 m) per minute with its 13-ton (11.7 t) rated capacity.

New York Crane and its sister company J. F. Lomma in South Kearny, NJ, operate a full fleet of crawler and hydraulic cranes, along with a number of Kodiak tower cranes. They also own the new Favco M440 and M220 diesel hydraulic- luffing boom tower cranes. These units have maximum capacities of 55 tons (49.5 t) and 33 tons (30 t) respectively.

The main body, power pack, winches and cabs of the M760 are produced by Favelle Favco in Australia while the towers and booms are fabricated at the Favelle Favco facility in Harlingen, TX. Favco tower cranes have been used on large construction projects in the New York area since 1966 including the World Trade Center.
