Caterpillar D400E II Lets Operator Dump on the Fly

August 30, 2000 - Northeast Edition
Construction Equipment Guide

Caterpillar offers the D400E II articulated truck in an ejector body configuration. The ejector truck eliminates carry-back of sticky materials and allows the operator to dump while the truck is moving. As a result, the truck can spread materials at the dump site and reduce cycle times.

Since the ejector system eliminates the need to raise the body, the ejector truck can dump on side slopes and has greater stability when dumping on steep downhill slopes or on unstable ground. The ejector truck also solves problems with overhead wires and structures.

The easy-to-load ejector truck was developed in conjunction with a North American contractor. The ejector truck is rated at 40 tons (36.3 t) and holds 28.6 cu. yds. (21.9 cu m). The reinforced body is made from high-yield, heat-treated steel that delivers strength and durability without unnecessary weight. For additional durability, Caterpillar uses high-strength alloy steel for ejector carriage rails and top rails.

The ejector system features maintenance-free sealed and lubricated rollers and other proprietary Caterpillar technology. Roller channels are rolled, rather than welded, for increased durability. The multistage telescopic hydraulic cylinder was specifically designed and manufactured for horizontal positioning The Caterpillar ejector carriage automatically tilts during ejection and return to prevent carrying back dirt or other material. The truck operator activates the ejector with a one-touch control and the tailgate automatically moves when ejection begins. The operator can stop ejection, if needed, with the same control.

The ejector truck can lower costs of hauling many materials by improving productivity and reducing spreading assistance.
